Ipswich’s population continues to grow rapidly, with more than 1,800 new residents moving to the city in the final quarter of last year.
Spring Mountain remained the fastest growing suburb, with 394 new residents and 138 new dwellings in the final three months of 2019.
It brings the city’s total population to 225,457 people.
The statistics were released in Ipswich City Council’s Planning and Regulatory Services’ Quarterly Report Card for the final quarter of last year.
Redbank Plains recorded 230 new residents and 94 new dwellings, while Ripley recorded an additional 172 residents and 55 new dwellings.
Deebing Heights and South Ripley were the other hotspots for growth in the city.
Mayor Teresa Harding welcomed Ipswich’s newest residents and said she would work hard to deliver services to all residents across the city.
“I will work with your new council to deliver the best community services and infrastructure to all Ipswich residents,” Mayor Harding said.
“Ipswich has consistently ranked as one of the fastest growing cities in Queensland as thousands of people choose to make our city their home each year.
“Council will continue to deliver quality services to keep up with that growth and ensure we create a prosperous and sustainable way of life for our city’s residents, both now and in the future.”
The Planning and Regulatory Services’ Report Card provides a snapshot of development activity and population growth across the city, including land subdivision, building works and applications for planning, building and plumbing.
It showed a total of 414 lots were created and 320 were approved across Ipswich from October to December.

Firstly, I congratulate for the new Mayor of Ipswich Mrs Hardying.
I hope to see our City of Ipswich look better and safer to live in the area as my house get a break-in stolen everything and the house was damaged, police working hard but can’t do any to return. Dixon Street now noise from the train (Stepping Stone projects ) it’s can not have a good sleep at all. Complain to Queensland Rails nothing better complain to the Stepping Stone office nothing better. Call to your Ipswich City Council has told by the staff they can’t do anything. I am totally hopeless. I really love Ipswich but I just hope the new team of Mrs.Harding will do the best to make our City better.
