Ipswich students, scouts clean up and collect prizes

An Ipswich school and a Redbank Plains youth organisation have won prizes as part of council’s recent Clean Up Australia Day activities.

Ipswich State High School and Redbank Plains Scout Group won $200 vouchers from The Source Bulk Foods at Springfield by photographing and sharing their clean up success stories.

Ipswich City Council Health, Security and Regulatory Services Committee Chairwoman Councillor Sheila Ireland said the council competition rewarded schools and community groups that went above and beyond as part of the national day.

“These two groups, along with many more across the city, did their bit for a cleaner and greener Ipswich,” she said.

“State high students removed rubbish from the school grounds and surrounding area while 11 scouts from Redbank Plains took to the water in canoes to improve conditions in and around Regatta Lake at Springfield Lakes.

“Special mention also to the clean-up crew from Blue Gum Reserve, where young people turned their attention to South Queensborough Parade near the banks of the Brisbane River at Karalee.

“Ipswich residents take a great deal of pride in their city and their suburbs and it was really heartening to see so many people out and about on Clean Up Australia Day.”

Clean up your act.
