Children of all ages are using light boxes, projectors and a range of colourful materials to get creative this month at a new, free and interactive exhibition at the Ipswich Art Gallery.
LightPlay is open now until 31 October, drawing from cutting-edge REMIDA and Reggio Emilia educational approaches to turn children’s creativity, innate social skills, and passion for discovery into dazzling projections.
Community, Culture Arts and Sports Committee chair Councillor Andrew Fechner said he would encourage families to come along and explore a world of LightPlay.
“The LightPlay exhibition is like no other and I am excited to see some of our youngest residents exploring their artistic potential in an interactive space created especially for them,” Cr Fechner said.
“I would like to encourage residents to bring their children along to enjoy this free and educational dazzling world of LightPlay where they can play with overhead projectors, illuminated light boxes and discover what happens when light is cast on different materials.
“Children can also explore transparency, reflection and shadow as well as other properties of light with this exhibition which takes you through a constantly evolving light scape.”
All ages are welcome, recommended for children three to eight years. Bookings are essential for weekends and school holidays.
