New dog off leash area open for community at Limestone Park

Dog owners and their four-legged friends are celebrating the completion of a new district-level dog off leash area at Limestone Park.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the new facility on Chermside Road, Ipswich is another example of council investing in facilities that enhance lifestyle and make our community an even better place to live.

“Dogs are an important part of many families, and this new off leash area provides a dedicated place where they can run, play and socialise, while creating another great spot for our community to connect outdoors,” Mayor Harding said.

“The new off leash area caters for dogs of all sizes, with separate areas for small and large dogs, agility equipment, shelters, seating, drinking fountains, bins and landscaping.

“A nice feature of the new dog off leash area is the obstacle course built as part of the facility’s dog agility equipment incorporates wood from a repurposed gum tree which had to be removed from a different section of the park.

“To see this tree repurposed and put to good use, along with the planting of more than 250 shrubs and groundcover plants throughout the site, shows the tangible steps council takes on projects to improve sustainability in our community.

“A new accessible car park and disability compliant footpath have also been constructed, ensuring the area is welcoming and accessible for all residents.

“Existing trees have been retained to provide natural shade, creating a comfortable environment for people and pets to enjoy year-round.”

Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said the facility delivers significant benefits for residents and visitors.

“It’s pleasing to see this exciting and accessible recreational space delivered which encourages healthy, active lifestyles while making Limestone Park an even more enjoyable place to visit,” Cr Doyle said.

Division 3 Councillor Andrew Antoniolli said the project responds to the needs of a growing community and enhances one of Ipswich’s most popular parks.

“Limestone Park is a destination for residents from across the city, and this new dog off leash area provides a safe, purpose-built space where dogs can exercise and socialise while owners connect with other members of the community,” Cr Antoniolli said.

The new Limestone Park dog off leash area brings to 22 the number of dedicated off leash areas in Ipswich. For a full list, visit Ipswich.qld.gov.au
