Ipswich, tell us who you are by completing the 2026 Census.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said residents can be included in a snapshot of the city, region, state and nation by completing the Census on the night of Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
“Each completed Census is a brushstroke in painting a picture of our city,” Mayor Harding said.
“As Queensland’s fastest growing city, the Census is a crucial tool for our community’s future with the information it collects helpful to advancing our city’s advocacy efforts.
“It provides detailed information about who lives in our city, where, and how, which can support efforts to improve services and infrastructure delivery for our communities.
“Previous Censuses have showed our city’s population is young, growing and diverse. Knowing these population trends can help Ipswich City Council and other levels of government form policies and initiatives to respond to the needs of residents.
“Importantly, they also help council when advocating to other levels of government for the infrastructure needed to support our growing population, which is expected to surpass 500,000 by 2046.
“Council has several Regionally Significant Projects which need ongoing support and investment from other levels of government to come to fruition. These include a better bus network for Ipswich, a second river crossing in Ipswich Central, the Ipswich to Springfield Central Rail Corridor and the Ebenezer Regional Industrial Area.
“Local councils receive just 3 per cent of all taxes collected in Australia so should not be expected to deliver city-changing projects by themselves.
“Having the clearest picture possible from the Census of how and where our city is growing strengthens the case council can make in advocating to the State and Federal governments for additional support.”
Mayor Harding said the Australian Bureau of Statistics, which runs the Census, can provide support for those who may have difficulty completing the Census.
