New equipment keeps Ipswich moving as wet weather hits

The monumental task of pouring 24,000 tonnes of asphalt across Ipswich each year needs some monumental machinery, particularly as wet weather impacts the city.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said three new bitumen trucks at Ipswich City Council are helping deliver a safer and smoother journey for Ipswich drivers.

“During the recent rain event between 21 and 28 October, these three new bitumen trucks helped us fill 1,168 potholes across the city, with 2,196 potholes filled over the entire month,” Mayor Harding said.

“Council’s hard-working crews and contractors pour more than 24,000 tonnes of asphalt across the city each year, as we deliver a $672 million Capital Works Program.

“We are ensuring we have the tools to provide the best possible infrastructure for Ipswich residents.

“The new trucks are being used to maintain more than 2,000 kilometres of local roads across Ipswich.

“They are part of our investment in local roads which will support safe and efficient travel for residents and visitors in Queensland’s fastest growing city, where our population is on track to grow from 275,000 to more than half a million by 2046.

“This new equipment is key to delivering our 2026-2027 Budget which includes $95 million for maintaining, upgrading and expanding our road network.”

Mayor Harding said a new woodchipper has been added to council’s open space maintenance equipment in time for the warmer months.

“One of the many reasons people love living in Ipswich is our picturesque nature areas,” Mayor Harding said.

“Council manages more than 8,500 hectares of parks and reserves over more than 550 sites, plus road islands, roundabout and pathways.

“The new woodchipper will help council keep parks and green spaces in top condition.”
