New heated indoor pool for Leichhardt Swim Centre

A new enclosed heated pool at the Georgie Conway Leichhardt Swim Centre has been given the green light by Ipswich City Council.

Under a new management agreement, the lessee is required make capital improvements to the swim centre.

A council spokesperson said council accepted the proposal from Just Sports n Fitness for installation of a new 12m x 6m multipurpose indoor heated pool.

“The new pool will be a welcome addition to the existing 25 metre six lane heated pool,” the spokesperson said.

“This facility is well supported by the community, however it has been a challenge to accommodate new user groups at the centre.

“When completed the new pool will primarily cater for learn to swim classes for ages between three months and nine years.

“Additional benefits include increased capacity for schools, aqua aerobics and offer full-time, part-time and casual employment to the local community.”

The spokesperson said the estimated project cost to the lessee was $159,925 and included the new pool, equipment, enclosure, electrical, plumbing and landscaping.

“The lessee will continue to work in partnership with council to secure planning approvals before construction could begin,” the spokesperson said.
