The new Ipswich Central Library continues to head toward completion with crews this week focusing their efforts on both the inside and outside of the new building.
Inside, crews are working on the ceilings, walls and the installation of services such as air-conditioning and electricity. Painting is also underway.
Outside, the first trees have been planted in the new garden beds and work is progressing on the installation of the framework for feature screening.
There are currently about 250 workers on site across the Nicholas St redevelopment.
For those working on the new council administration building, the past week was all about pouring the first and second lots of concrete on level seven.
Work is also taking place on window framing, walls and ceilings on the ground floor.
This week the scaffolding on the building is expected to reach level eight.
In the civic plaza space, workers have completed exterior panelling on one of the two new pavilions, with painting to follow.
Paving is continuing across the space, with planters and future landscaping elements underway.
Installation of the lifts between the car park and civic plaza is nearing completion.
The Nicholas St redevelopment is the largest transformation to be undertaken in the Ipswich CBD in more than three decades.
It will create a thriving civic, retail, dining and entertainment zone in the heart of Ipswich.
What is planned for the old building?
Thanks for the question Kim. Ipswich City Council and West Moreton Hospital and Health Service have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to manage the transition of existing council-owned offices, including the Hayden Centre, Administration Building and IGIC Building. This is set to enable Queensland Health to expand its services beyond the current constrained hospital site and progressively redevelop the current council site (bringing health facilities, staff and clients closer to the CBD).
