Nominations have opened for this year’s Ipswich Sports Awards, which recognise the passion, dedication and talent of sportspeople across Ipswich.
The awards include categories for juniors, seniors, masters, teams, coaches, officials and volunteers.
Mayor Teresa Harding said that sporting and community organisations are the lifeblood of Ipswich, and that these awards will honour the excellence of those who work tirelessly for their sport, both on and off the field.
“Clubs and organisations are at the centre of our community, connecting us with others, and providing us with a wide array of recreational and active outlets,” Mayor Harding said.
“Ipswich has a proud sporting history and continues to produce representatives who are competing at a state, national and international level across a range of sports.”
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chair, Councillor Andrew Fechner, encouraged everyone to nominate someone they think deserves recognition in their sport.
“The Ipswich Sports Awards is a great opportunity to highlight the achievements of players, and also shines a light on the coaches, officials and volunteers who dedicate their time and share their passion for their sport,” Cr Fechner said.
“It’s not only their personal achievements which are worth celebrating, but their efforts at encouraging more participation in sports and creating a healthy and vibrant community.
“The volunteers who run these organisations and the players who have remained committed to their codes and clubs deserve to be recognised for their hard work during these recent challenging times.”
Nominations for the 2020 Ipswich Sports Awards close at midnight on Sunday, 13 September.
Winners will be announced at an awards dinner on Friday, 6 November.
