Opening date set for city’s first Taco Bell

The wait is almost over for lovers of Mexican food with Taco Bell’s new restaurant at East Ipswich to open on Saturday.

Taco Bell Australia confirmed the opening, and announced it on the company’s Facebook page.

“Hey QLD! We promised we hadn’t forgotten about you, and this Saturday 14 December, we’ve got an opening day planned for you too,” a post on the page notes.

“We have an epic opening day planned for locals, including limited edition merch, live music and of course, one lucky customer will win free Taco Bell for a year.”

The Ipswich restaurant at 70 Brisbane Road, East Ipswich will officially open at 10am.

Taco Bell has hired about 80 local team members and managers for its Ipswich restaurant.

It is on the site formerly occupied by Sizzler.

The Sizzler restaurant was closed and demolished earlier this year to make way for the new Taco Bell as part of parent company Collins Foods’ plans to expand the brand across Australia.

A Collins Foods spokesperson has previously said the change from Sizzler to Taco Bell was in line with market expectations.

“The Sizzler brand has been on a journey in recent years, undergoing a review of its offer, decor and positioning to better compete in an ever-evolving marketplace,” the spokesperson said in August.

“This Ipswich market has changed and grown a new generation of diners.”

The new Taco Bell restaurant is a single-storey building with a drive thru which allows for queuing of 12 vehicles.

It also has an outdoor dining area. It is Collins Foods’ first Taco Bell in Ipswich and follows an announcement in 2018 by the company that it would roll out “more than 50 new locations across three states over the next three years”.
