Weather

So does this mean autumn has finally arrived?

We have sweltered our way through what is set to be the hottest March on record.

The good news is – relief is in sight even if it is just for a few days.

Showers and a thunderstorm are forecast this week with an 80 per cent chance of showers tomorrow (Wednesday) with a maximum temperature of 26 degrees.

Things have cooled off a bit this week with a couple of cooler days expected midweek with a top of 26 degrees.

In what could be summer’s last push, the heat will creep back up on Friday with a maximum of 31 expected and a high temperature of 32 degree for over the weekend.

Bureau of Meterology meteorologist Aditi Sharan said a possible thunderstorm is forecast for Friday.

“Ex-tropical cyclone Trevor, which is now a low pressure system moving though into western Queensland is what is bringing the rain to the south-east,” she said.

“Temperatures will start dropping from today but will creep up a bit towards the end of the week.”

The end of the weekend is also the end of the month, with overall temperatures in March expected to break more records.

The hottest ever March day on record in Ipswich was recorded on Tuesday 12 this month with a temperature of 41.3 degrees. That beat the previous record of 38.9 degrees, which was on 11 March, 2007.

Not only has it been hot, but it has also been dry with Seqwater asking South East Queenslanders to start looking for ways to be more water wise.

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Neil Brennan, said the Water Grid combined dam level expected to fall to 70% capacity.

“The combination of hot, dry conditions, high water use and little or no rain has seen dam levels fall steadily”, Mr Brennan said.

“The Bureau of Meteorology predicts below average rainfall for autumn with warm conditions continuing into April.”

Many people are left wondering when autumn will arrive.

There is no official word from the bureau, however the forecast for April Fool’s day is a top of 31 degrees.

And that is no joke.
