Stay fit with free Active at Home workouts

Ipswich City Council has launched the new Active at Home series of online workouts to keep you moving and support your mental wellbeing during COVID-19.

The series of 30 minute workouts are being streamed daily at 8am on the Sport Ipswich Facebook page and include boxing/HIIT, pilates, yoga and bootcamp classes.

The videos will remain on the Facebook page for anyone who would prefer to do them at a later time.

There is also a series of pre-recorded Active at Home videos, including three different styles of yoga, pilates and three express workouts targeting abs, lower body or a full body workout.

Council’s General Manager of Community, Cultural and Economic Development, Ben Pole, said the Active at Home series was created to support the community through COVID-19.

“With our Active Parks program and Kids Active Breaks school holiday program both on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions, we wanted to help our community stay fit and healthy with Active at Home classes,” Mr Pole said.

“Teaming up with local fitness providers for the Active at Home series has also helped to keep Ipswich residents employed and connected to their community through fun workouts.

“We know how important exercise is for both our physical and mental health, and the wide range of Active at Home workouts available, from high intensity interval training to guided meditation and yoga, will provide a suitable option for everyone.”

Active at Home mini classes for children include aerobics for kids, basic soccer skills and hula hooping tricks.

Make sure you are prepared to work out at home:

  • Create a safe space for exercise
  • Have access to a towel and water bottle
  • Wear appropriate clothing and footwear
  • Exercise within your limits and with clearance from a health professional
