The Christmas lunch leftovers are disappearing, the tinsel is being re-boxed and Australia’s men’s cricketers are almost certainly celebrating a comprehensive Boxing Day Test victory in the Ashes.
That can only mean one thing: it’s time for New Year’s Eve celebrations in Ipswich.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the joy spread throughout the city during the Christmas festivities will continue with a night of fireworks and frivolity to ring in 2026.
“The community spirit of the Christmas in Ipswich festival doesn’t end when Rudolph guides the sleigh back to the North Pole,” Mayor Harding said.
“So take off your Santa hat and put on your party hat, because we’re keeping the festivities going with an epic night of New Year’s Eve celebrations in Ipswich.
“Dazzling fireworks displays will light up the skies over Springfield Central, South Ripley, Ipswich Central, Rosewood and Goodna, giving our residents opportunities to celebrate the new year with those closest to them.
“These wonderful events bring joy and happiness to our communities, ensuring our city remains a vibrant and connected place for everyone to enjoy.”
Economic and Cultural Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said the New Year’s Eve fireworks start at 9pm on Wednesday, 31 December across the city.
“The earlier start time of 9pm for fireworks gives children the opportunity to celebrate the start of 2026 with their loved ones,” Cr Augustine said.
“There are also family-friendly New Year’s Eve events at many of our great hospitality venues across the city, so check IpswichFestivals.com.au for more information.”
