It is cuteness overload at the Ipswich Nature Centre, where animals are getting ready to welcome new additions while some have already arrived just in time for the school holidays.
Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson Councillor Russell Milligan said it is the perfect time to visit the Centre and welcome the new babies.
“It is a wonderful time of the year to visit the Centre and see the baby birds, joeys and you may even spot the odd flying fox pup,” Cr Milligan said.
“Brush-tailed rock wallabies Paxton and Tahli are boosting their vulnerable species after successfully breeding, and I can confirm Tahli has a joey in her pouch.
“The little joey has not emerged yet but if you keep your eye out, you may see the pouch move.”
The centre is home to over 42 species and around 200 animals in care, from dingoes, bilbies and wallabies to water dragons and a whole petting zoo.
Open six days a week, seven during school holidays, and near the Japanese Nerima Gardens within Queens Park, the Ipswich Nature Centre is perfect family-friendly fun.

“New arrivals are also expected any day for the magpie geese, princess parrots, wonga pigeons and the bower birds,” Cr Milligan said.
“A special treat will be to see the male satin bowerbird tending to his bower which is made up of sticks and decorated with blue objects.
“He proudly shows off his hard work by dancing around it to impress the female satin bowerbirds.
“There is lots to see and do at the Nature Centre these school holidays and with so many new faces to meet, it is a fun way to educate children about the animal world.”
The Ipswich Nature Centre is in Queens Park and is open seven days over the school holidays from 9.30am, with the last entry being at 3.45pm before the centre closes at 4pm.
