5 free things to do this weekend

Looking for something fun and free to do this weekend with the family?

Here are five ideas from blogger Lady Brisbane to get you out of the house and into discovering more about Ipswich. And best of all, they are ideas that won’t break your budget and offer something for everyone.

Visit Ipswich Nature Centre

See wombats, wallabies, emus, quolls and even a nocturnal bilby exhibit.

Take a walk through the rainforest bird aviary and let the little ones enjoy the barn, home to Dexter the bull, lambs, and goats. Ipswich Nature Centre is open six days a week and is located in Queens Park on Milford Street, Ipswich.

Admission is free, however a donation of a gold coin is greatly appreciated.

Take yourself on a street art tour

If you love searching laneways and backs of buildings for street art, you’re going to love exploring Ipswich Central.

The area is now home to more than 10 amazing art works from some of Australia’s best street artists.

You can find where these pieces are located here and here.

Explore the Ipswich Antique Centre

Browsing doesn’t cost a cent and that’s exactly what you’re welcomed to do at the Ipswich Antique Centre on 86 East Street, Ipswich Central.

The centre is home to an amazing collection of antiques and collectables including Australian, country and English furniture, beds, Australian pottery, jewellery, vintage clothes, movie memorabilia plus a specialised Retro Room.

Open Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

Go hike White Rock – Spring Mountain

Located in the White Rock – Spring Mountain Conservation estate, are a range of great adventure walks for the whole family from an easy 200-metre walk to the challenging 19-kilometre round trip trail.

The 6.5km return hike takes up to 3 hours and you can expect great views, lots of wildlife and a variety of tracks and terrain. Check out a map of the region here.

Keep cool at these free water parks

If you’re looking to keep cool, try any of these four fabulous water parks in the Ipswich region.
