1. More Movies in the Park
The successful Movies in the Park program, which attracted almost 3000 people earlier this year, is set to be expanded.
The proposed program for the next two years will increase from four to five venues and alternate between the 10 divisions in Ipswich. The venue, date and movie for each division will be selected closer to the time to ensure that we have the most up-to-date list of movies available for film-goers.
2. Funding for school holiday programs
Youth activities including a cardboard car rally, cooking classes, movie days and craft sessions will be available across Ipswich during the school holidays.
Activities will be held at Rivers of Life Christian Church Chuwar, YMCA Springfield Lakes Community Centre, Gailes Community House, Riverview Neighbourhood House, Leichhardt One Mile Community Centre and Rosewood & District Support Centre. I encourage people to contact the centres directly for more information.
3. Sports groups score sponsorships
Rugby League Ipswich and Western Aquatics Inc have been awarded funding from the Sporting Event Sponsorship program.
The sponsorship program helps Ipswich organisations host sporting events right through from local to international level. Council is proud to support these major events which help to promote physical activity in our community.
4. Program provides support in emergencies
A new emergency management program will help the community’s most vulnerable – those who face a greater risk of loss, injury, illness and death during disasters.
A program to address specific vulnerabilities within the community complements other emergency and disaster management strategies. It will assist council to identify people who are or who may be highly susceptible to the impact of disasters or emergency events and help us plan activities to mitigate or increase their resilience and recovery.
5. Three community groups given grants
Ipswich groups have received Community Development Grants. Funding went to Our House Our Haven Inc, House With No Steps and Springfield Christian Family Limited.
These three groups have a common theme – helping people help others. They support very worthwhile initiatives, which will help change and improve the lives of Ipswich people who are perhaps less fortunate and disadvantaged.
