Border extended into NSW with zero new cases of COVID-19

There were no new cases recorded overnight in Queensland for COVID-19 with Health Minister Steven Miles announcing a shift the border zone to include Byron, Ballina, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Glen Innes council areas.

Border residents can apply for a border pass and travel around Queensland for any purpose, and Queenslanders can travel to those places as well.

“These areas have a lot in common with Queensland, they do a lot of their business in Queensland so we believe this is the right measure to take,” Premier Annastacia Palaszcuk said.

There are 152,000 people living in those areas and Health Minister Steven Miles said there have been a very low number of cases of COVD-19 in Northern NSW.

This new border zone will come into effect from 1am Thursday 1 October.

There are currently 16 active cases of COVID-19 in Queensland.

There are 55 cases linked from the Ipswich Hospital, Youth Detention Centre and Corrections cluster with the last person in the community with COVID-19 on 10 September.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said she would be considering lifting the additional restrictions on aged care and hospitals in Ipswich and Brisbane from Friday this week.

If there are no further cases recorded in the public it would be 14 days on Thursday since the last person with COVID-19 was out in public.

A Public Health Alert was issued last night for a historical case from August.

Anyone who attended the Royal Pines Resort Tees clubhouse restaurant and golf shop between 7.45am and 3pm on 24 August or Gailes Golf Club at Wacol from 9am until 3.30pm on 27 August should get tested if they develop any symptoms.

Residents of the aged care community in Laidley are now out of quarantine and are able to enjoy each other’s company for the first time in two weeks.

It follows official notification from Queensland Health that all results for three rounds of COVID tests on residents and staff have come back negative.

Queensland borders will open to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) at 1am on Friday, September 25.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, fatigue or loss of taste or smell.
