Celebrate your city in 2021

With the New Year just around the corner, the Nicholas Street Precinct events team is busy creating a calendar of fun and free events to help families enjoy summer in the city.

From crafts to craft beer, dance to DJs, tap dance to tapas and beyond, there’s something for everyone in Tulmur Place in January 2021.

Kicking off on Monday 18 January, Triangle House will entertain children between 9am and 11am Monday to Friday with hands-on crafts while Daniebelle’s Musicadium will delight with music, dance and art.

Sparky Do Dah will drop by Monday, Wednesday and Thursday with a range of cool, interactive activities designed especially for children.

On Saturday 30 January, the new Swich Summer Sounds will kick off from 3pm with six hours of live local music, a Great Aussie BBQ hosted by Ipswich Hospital Foundation and Rotary Club of Ipswich City, a pop up deck bar thanks to Four Hearts Brewing Company and the amazing water play zone.

Visit www.ihfoundation.org.au/summersounds to book your free tickets, which will be available from 18 January 2021.

In February and March the precinct’s regular program of events will start including monthly Handmade Expo Markets and food trucks, regular farmer’s markets and the launch of Tulmur Tapas – a monthly pop up Friday night on the Tulmur Deck.

As well as a packed calendar of events, work will continue on the precinct’s redevelopment, with the new children’s library, council administration building and EATS precinct due to open mid-year, with more than 800 Ipswich City Council staff making the move to the precinct.

The restoration of the historic Commonwealth Hotel is expected to be completed in April 2021, while work is expected to start on the former Ipswich City Plaza, now known as Metro B, during the first quarter.

Expect the space to get bigger and better as the year goes on with loads of fun for the whole family, fantastic new spaces to explore and the re-emergence of Ipswich’s city heart.
