A Mexican wave is sweeping across Ipswich, as restaurant chain Guzman y Gomez today opens its third store in the region in North Ipswich.
Located on the corner of Pine and Lowry streets, on the former site of Birdies Chickens and Burgers, the new North Ipswich store is offering its popular Tex-Mex cuisine via drive-through and takeaway.
Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan said it was promising to see new businesses opening in Ipswich despite COVID-19.
“As council continues to work on how it can assist the community and businesses to recover from the economic impacts of the coronavirus, it’s encouraging to see new businesses continue to open in Ipswich,” Cr Milligan said.
Division 4 Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said it was a boost for local job seekers.
“As these new businesses open they create more local employment opportunities for Ipswich residents,” Cr Kunzelmann said.
The North Ipswich Guzman y Gomez store has employed more than 40 people, including new employees and current employees from other stores who have lost shifts due to COVID-19.
They are still currently advertising a number of positions in the North Ipswich store including head cook, shift leaders and sales and food preparation team members. You can apply online now via their website.
To celebrate its grand opening, Guzman y Gomez North Ipswich is offering discounts on some of its most popular menu items.
“We are celebrating our opening at North Ipswich by offering all brekkie burritos and bowls from 7am to 10.30am as well as burritos and bowls from 10.30am to 10pm for $5,” a spokeswoman said.
“Can’t wait to see you all and please remember to be safe and observe social distancing as you line up to grab our opening day special.”
The new North Ipswich Guzman y Gomez store is open from 7am to 10pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the store is not currently offering a dine-in option, however all menu items are available in store for takeaway and drive-through.
