Chef tips for cooking your next meal

Cooking healthy and delicious meals for the family is now easier, thanks to a new series of Wholesome at Home recipes.

Ipswich’s Civic Centre’s Executive Chef, Rohan Dowdy, has shared his favourite easy recipes to cook at home with the family, using pantry staples.

Council’s Wholesome at Home initiative started during COVID-19 to provide simple and nutritious meal ideas for families to cook at home, along with special chef’s tips and nutritional information.

“They’re easy recipes to make and it’s fun to get the whole family involved,” Chef Rohan said.

“It really brings everyone together when you’re cooking meals and sharing what you’ve made together.”

“I think it’s also important to teach kids the basics of cooking, so when they leave home, at least they have some grounding on how to do things like peel an onion or slow cook some meat and vegetables.”

Rohan’s Wholesome at Home recipes include homemade yoghurt, san choy bow, honey and mustard chicken drumsticks, healthy fried rice and pumpkin dog biscuits.

“A few people have been surprised by how easy it is to make things like yoghurt at home,” Chef Rohan said.

“It’s all about making it easy and giving some simple tips to help people build confidence in the kitchen and using what you have to reduce waste.”
