Club puts community first for fundraising day

For the Ipswich Jets, supporting the community off the field is just as important as the results on it. The club will this month host its annual Ladies Day, raising money for the Ipswich Domestic Violence Action Centre.

Ladies Day will return to North Ipswich Reserve for the fifth time on Saturday, 19 May.

The event will coincide with the Ipswich Jets Intrust Super Cup clash with the Norths Devils, offering a three-hour pamper package and fundraising festivities benefitting the Ipswich Domestic Violence Action Centre (DVAC).

While the off-field fun will be tailored for ladies, the team will take a lead role by wearing special edition pink-purple jerseys that will be auctioned on the day.

Jets corporate and community engagement manager Nicole McPhee said the day was all about putting the people of Ipswich first.

“As a club we’re here for the community and particularly groups like DVAC, which we will support for the third year,” she said.

“It’s a day when we can reach a different section of the community – ladies who want to come along and enjoy lunch, drinks, a dessert bar and beauty pampering and visit our stallholders while supporting a really important cause.

“The event is always well attended, we’ve raised $20,000 for DVAC over the years and we’re once again expecting 260 ladies on the day.

“Cityhope Care will also be using Ladies Day as a collection point as part of their drive to collect items for people in domestic violence situations.”

Mrs McPhee said the event was an important day for the club, its players and their families.

“I’ve been a rugby league ‘widow’ myself so I know what it’s like to put so much time and effort into the game for your partner,” she said.

“This is a way for the club to acknowledge everything ladies do for league at every level, whether it’s the partners, mums or sisters, they all play a role and we’re excited to give back to them.”

Ipswich Jets Ladies Day is Saturday, 19 May from 11am to 2pm at North Ipswich Reserve. Tickets including a three-hour drinks package are $60 each or $550 for a table of 10. Tickets without the drinks package are $45 each. For bookings or more information email [email protected]
