Community celebration to cap off Queen’s Baton Relay in Ipswich

Council’s representative on the local Queen’s Baton Relay planning group, Cr Cheryl Bromage and food truck owner Rubiar Hart are looking forward to the community celebration at Limestone Park.

A MAJOR community celebration at Limestone Park will cap off the visit by the 2018 Queen’s Baton Relay to Ipswich this Thursday.

The Queen’s Baton will make its way from Hunter Street, Brassall about 2.30pm through the CBD to Limestone Park where it will arrive about 5.30pm.

Cr Cheryl Bromage, council’s representative on the local Queen’s Baton Relay planning group, said the Baton would arrive to much cheer and festivity.

“The community celebration in Limestone Park will start at 4pm and be in full swing by the time the Queen’s Baton arrives,” Cr Bromage said.

“The celebration will showcase some of our city’s great sporting achievements of the past and celebrate cultural and sporting heroes of the present and future.

“A range of family-friendly entertainment is planned including cultural and sporting performances, some of the region’s best food trucks and fireworks from 6.45pm.

“An outdoor screening of the movie A Dog’s Purpose will start at the amphitheatre from 7pm.”

Cr Bromage said the community celebration was the perfect way to cap off the Queen’s Baton Relay in Ipswich.

“It’s an exciting event for the city and I encourage everyone to come along and watch the relay and then make their way to Limestone Park to help us celebrate,” she said.
