With just days to go before the return of the iconic Goodna Jacaranda Festival, Division 2 Councillors Paul Tully and Nicole Jonic came together at Evan Marginson Park to update their community on key council projects impacting local residents and businesses.
Division 2 of Ipswich City Council stretches from Gailes in the north to Spring Mountain in the south, and includes Augustine Heights, Bellbird Park, Carole Park, Brookwater, Camira, Goodna, part of Redbank, Springfield, Springfield Central and Springfield Lakes.
Springfield Parkway and Springfield Greenbank Arterial Duplication Project
Council’s largest ever road upgrade project has reached a major milestone with commuters, motorists and cyclists enjoying a new signalised intersection at Springfield Greenbank Arterial and Springfield Parkway.
Six lanes of traffic travelling from three directions are now all navigating through the new intersection – the biggest in council’s road network.
The upgrade of Springfield Parkway and Springfield Greenbank Arterial in Springfield Central from two to four lanes is critical to meeting increased growth in the region.
Stage 3 of the Redbank Plains Road Upgrade is also underway, to meet population growth in surrounding areas like Bellbird Park.
Cr Tully and Cr Jonic thank everyone for ensuring the safety of motorists and road workers by sticking to the speed limit and driving safely around these important works.
Long-awaited return of the Goodna Jacaranda Festival
Goodna’s much-loved Jacaranda Festival is back this month, after a three-year hiatus.
Evan Marginson Park is set to roll out the purple carpet once again for three days of fun and entertainment for the whole family.
Goodna’s jacaranda festival has attracted visitors from near and far for decades, and is a firm favourite in the South East Queensland events calendar.
Returning to its usual timeslot of the last weekend in October, both councillors look forward to joining a bumper crowd in 2023.
Community connection through chess in Robelle Domain
It is checkmate at Springfield Central with the installation of new chess tables bringing the community together.
Six chess tables have been installed in Robelle Domain, proving to be a great success not only with the Ipswich chess community, but also other curious locals coming together to meet, learn and play.
It was Springfield Ipswich Chess Club President Ed Cubilla who pitched the idea , after gathering more than 400 signatures in support of the project. Cr Jonic and Cr Tully were thrilled to help bring this wonderful idea to fruition for the benefit of the community.
Kippen Park celebrates reopening
There was great news recently for Western Spirit Football Club, with work to restore Kippen Park completed after the club suffered significant damage in last year’s floods.
The canteen and change rooms have been rebuilt to enable Western Spirit to get back to what they do best: playing football, building community spirit, and fundraising for their club’s success.
With Kippen Park now complete, work has also progressed at Jim Finimore Park, Goodna Bowls Club and Rotary Park, home to the Ipswich Knights.
