Community urged to have say on local area needs

The latest Redbank Plains Community Centre survey is now open, with community members encouraged to have their say about local area needs.

The survey is part of a multi-year project with Multicultural Australia, which runs the Redbank Plains Community Centre.

It can be taken online from 28 June to 25 July 2021 here or find out more about the project and take the survey via Shape Your Ipswich at www.shapeyouripswich.com.au/redbank-plains-community-centre

The centre provides a range of community support programs including youth support, playgroups, multicultural lunches, information sessions, financial counselling and more.

Division 1 Councillor Sheila Ireland said previous surveys had helped shape the centre’s programs and encouraged people to take part.

“The Redbank Plains Community Centre opened in May 2018 as a co-funded facility by Ipswich City Council and the State Government,” Cr Ireland said.

“What this survey is about is identifying the needs of the local area to ensure services and programs provided from the centre by Multicultural Australia continue to meet community needs.”

Division 1 Councillor Jacob Madsen said the survey was not just for people who use the centre, but also the wider community.

“Even if you have never been to the community centre or you have previously participated, we want you to take part in the survey to share your views,” Cr Madsen said.

“Hearing from a broad cross-section of community members allows us to better understand the needs of the Redbank Plains community, to support the work being done by the centre and assess its impact in the community.”

Multicultural Australia recently extended its contract and will continue to manage the Redbank Plains Community Centre for the next three years.

Centre Manager Jeril Thomas said Multicultural Australia was committed to providing programs that met the needs of the community.

“Our focus is on providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for all residents of Redbank Plains to make a meaningful impact to the community,” Mr Thomas said.

“The survey is a valuable tool for us to ensure that we bring that focus to fruition and I encourage as many people as possible to take part.”

Redbank Plains Community Centre is at 180 School Road, Redbank Plains.
