Countdown to the New Year in Ipswich

Karaoke bars, dancefloors and the skies above Ipswich are set to come alive with New Year’s Eve festivities as the city farewells 2021 with fireworks, parties and family-friendly events.

Spectacular fireworks will launch into the night at Ripley, Rosewood, Ipswich Central and Springfield Central on New Year’s Eve at 9pm.

There are also family-friendly events planned plus beach and dance parties that will continue into the early hours of 2022 across the city.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the fireworks displays have been specially designed to be visible to as many residents as possible, with only aerial shells that will be shot high into the sky being used.

“On the final night of 2021, I encourage all residents to turn their heads towards the skies above Ipswich at 9pm when fireworks will launch at four New Year’s Eve hubs,” Mayor Harding said.

“The launchpads in Ripley, Rosewood, Ipswich Central and Springfield Central have been chosen strategically where residents can see the fireworks from their backyards or socially distanced in large, open public spaces nearby.”

Fireworks will launch 9pm New Year’s Eve at Ripley, Rosewood, Ipswich Central and Springfield Central.

Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said there is plenty happening around the region as we celebrate the year that has been and welcome 2022.

“Families can farewell this year and welcome the next locally at fireworks and all-ages events across the city, including the fun-packed Countdown with Colour at the Tivoli Drive In,” Cr Fechner said.

“Please remember, while you are out enjoying the end of year events, adhere to social distancing and ensure you and your household group maintains a 1.5m distance from others to help keep our community safe.”
