Ipswich Piping and Drumming Solo Championships and the Queensland Model Hobbies Expo have received event sponsorship from Ipswich City Council.
Economic Development and Digital City Committee chairman Cr Paul Tully said council’s support of community and citywide events promoted both economic benefits to the city and promotional opportunities which highlighted Ipswich as a destination for major events.
“Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band will receive $2,500 to support the band in hosting the solo championships for drummers and bagpipers,” Cr Tully said.
“This event will attract more than 100 competitors from Queensland, News South Wales and further afield.
“The majority of these soloist are under 18 and from a diverse range of backgrounds.
“Many families and supporters will be attending as soloists vie for the title of Queensland Champion.”
Cr Tully said sponsorship of $3,000 was also approved for the Queensland Model Hobbies Expo.
“This expo is the second largest of its type in Australia,” he said.
“It attracts existing fans of the hobby and is also aimed at encouraging new participants, mainly younger age groups.
“This year Ipswich can expect an influx of more the 3,500 people to attend the hobbies expo.
“Using the economy.id Event Impact Calculator the estimated combined economic benefit from the Ipswich Piping and Drumming Solo Championships and the Queensland Model Hobbies Expo is $185,000.”
