Exciting week of fun to celebrate new Ipswich Children’s Library

A week-long celebration of literacy and learning headlined by some of the country’s most prominent children’s entertainers will mark the opening of the new Ipswich Children’s Library later this month.

The opening coincides with the start of school holidays and runs from Monday 28 June to Saturday 3 July.

Mayor Teresa Harding said an extensive program of events was planned for the historic opening.

“This library, the third delivered by Ipswich City Council in the past two years, is a special space for our city’s youngest readers and the first standalone public library for children in the country,” Mayor Harding said.

“It is specifically designed for children aged zero to 12 to explore, learn and play, and demonstrates this council’s commitment to providing quality facilities for our growing community now and into the future.

“We’ve enlisted the help of exciting talents including well-known actor and children’s entertainer Jay Laga’aia to help celebrate the opening.

“Australia’s, and in fact the world’s, favourite blue heeler Bluey, together with Bingo, will be dropping by for a special live interactive experience in Tulmur Place on Friday 2 July.

“Best of all, the entertainment on offer is all free. I can’t wait to see the doors open to our city’s newest library and I encourage families to come down and help us celebrate this momentous occasion.”

Ipswich Children’s Library opening week program highlights include:

Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo Show: An enthralling encounter with prehistoric creatures in a fun, entertaining and original performance.

Jay Laga’aia live on stage: A stage show guaranteed to spark children’s love of language and music.

Geckoes Wildlife Encounter: Wild guests will take over The Bubble in the new library for up close encounters and to start conversations about conservation.

Jazzy Art – Balloon Twisting: There will be twists and turns as balloon creations spring to life.

Guru Dudu Silent Disco Tour: Move to the beat of a select playlist of dance favourites on this unique guided tour. Headphones supplied.
