Free kerbside collection commencing in Brookwater, Springfield, Springfield Central

It is time to clean out the spare room or under the house as council’s free large item kerbside collection begins on 6 June for one week in Brookwater, Springfield and Springfield Central.

Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Chair Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the scheduled service was in full swing across the city.

“Brookwater, Springfield and Springfield Central residents can take this opportunity to collect anything that can be disposed of from around your home, such as broken furniture, toys and other unwanted appliances,” Mayor Harding said.

Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Deputy Chairperson Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said collection teams would be passing by 1,089 homes in Brookwater, 2,710 homes in Springfield and 180 homes in Springfield Central from Monday 6 June.

“The kerbside collection service means bulky items that cannot be reused or recycled can be picked up free of charge,” Cr Tully said.

Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said the collection service was great for disposing of items not suitable for the general waste or recycling bins.

“Residents should place items on the kerb by the weekend before their scheduled collection commencement date, but not more than seven days prior,” Cr Jonic said.

Large Item Kerbside Collection scheduled for Weeks 7-10 for the following suburbs was postponed while council redirected resources to flood-affected suburbs:

Flinders View, Yamanto, Basin Pocket, Blackstone, East Ipswich, Eastern Heights, Ipswich, West Ipswich, Booval, Newtown, North Booval, Silkstone and Raceview.

Council is aware some material had been placed on kerbs already, and will endeavour to remove these items. Please do not place any additional material on the kerb.

The large item collection service for these suburbs will resume in June/July for Weeks 21-23 of the updated schedule. Please see the updated schedule below.

  • No sharp or dangerous objects are placed on kerbside
  • Piles are tidy on the kerbside and roadway is kept clear
  • Doors are removed from cupboards
  • Outdoor play equipment is to be dismantled

Read the guidelines on what is an acceptable item to put on the footpath as only acceptable items will be collected.

Acceptable items include furniture, mattresses, household appliances, carpet, lino, bath and laundry tubs, bicycles and outdoor play equipment.

Appliances containing refrigerants such as fridges, freezers and air conditioners cannot be accepted.

Residents should place items on the kerb by the weekend before their scheduled collection commencement date, but not more than seven days prior.

The full schedule of when the kerbside collection service will be available in each suburb is now available on council’s website.
