Ipswich will host the inaugural Brookwater Pro-Am golf tournament on 26 and 27 April 2019

It signals a return of professional golf tournaments to the city.

Up to 80 PGA professionals and 80 amateurs from around Australia will complete for $60,000 in prize money across four categories.

The big names in golf including Wayne Grady, Peter Senior, Roger Davis and Michael Harwood are scheduled to play.

Ipswich City Council head of economic development Ben Pole said organisers estimated attendance of 50,000 over two days.

“About 60 per cent of those will come from outside Ipswich.

“The event will also attract significant media coverage in Australia and New Zealand.

“This will include golf and mainstream media, and Fox Sports,” he said.

A sponsorship commitment of $7,500 has been made by Ipswich City Council to support the year’s event.

Ben Pole said the www.economy.id.au Event Impact Calculator estimated the total economic benefit to the city would be in the range of $710,000.

“Ipswich will benefit from event marketing targeting new visitors, and through campaigns and promotional activity on the Discover Ipswich website.

“Organisers are planning for the Brookwater Pro-Am to expand to a tier-one four day premier PGA event with television broadcast coverage by 2021.”
