Governor gives Ipswich City Council staff his support

HIS Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland has thrown his support behind Ipswich City Council and its staff.

Mr de Jersey visited Ipswich on Tuesday.

He met with Interim Administrator Greg Chemello, the interim management committee and senior executives to get an overview of how the council is travelling before attending an afternoon tea with several staff from across council.

Mr de Jersey praised staff for continuing to serve the people of Ipswich well during challenging times.

He revealed his own special connection to Ipswich, with his mother having been born here, and said he took an active ongoing interest in the city.

Mr de Jersey encouraged staff to remember they had the support of the people of Ipswich, and the Governor of Queensland.

“I understand this is a challenging time for both yourselves and for the wider Ipswich community, however it is a journey which will showcase the resilience of your city,” Mr de Jersey said.

“Ipswich is a proud city, a city built on industry and defence, and your community is renowned for facing adversity with unshakable optimism and resolve.

“The traits of unity, dedication and commitment are the Queensland way, and they will continue to serve you and the City of Ipswich well.

“As one of the fastest growing cities in Queensland and one of the top 10 in Australia, there is much to be excited about in Ipswich.

“I wish you all the very best for the future.”

Interim Administrator Greg Chemello said it was great to see Mr de Jersey was taking an active interest in council, its staff and the City of Ipswich.
