Well, what if there was a great, fun and, most importantly, free activity the kids can do?
Yep, that’s right.
Reading.
Sit your little ones down in the cool air conditioning in one of Ipswich’s libraries and stick a book in their hands.
The Summer Reading Club involves registering, reading 5 books and then submitting your completed reading checklist to go in the draw to win prizes.
As part of the summer Reading Club for kids, they have also organised some game days with giant board games, lawn games, a VR driving comp and even Nerf battles.
While you are there you can earn some trading cards, there are 10 in the set to collect.
Ipswich Libraries staff have individually selected some titles to get your children started.

If you loved Charlie and Lola when you were little then you will love Clarice Bean now that you’re a big old primary school kid. Clarice Bean, Don’t Look Now, is actually the seventh book in the series. It does stand on its own but it’s always worth starting a good series from the beginning or going back once you’ve read this one. In Don’t Look Now, it’s a new school year and it seems that all of Clarice’s worst worries are coming true. She’s stuck with her horrid old teacher, there’s a new girl sitting next to her in class and her house and family are falling apart.

The Patchwork Bike is the best thing of all to play with under the stretching-out sky at the edge of the no-go desert. Built from scratch using everyday items like branches, an old flour sack and an old milk pot it’s perfect to bumpity-bump over sandhills and speed through your mud-for-walls home. Nothing quite beats the freedom of racing around on your own wheels. With beautiful illustrations originally drawn and collaged on corrugated cardboard the textures jump right off the page.
