A bumper series of water-based activities is underway across the city for Ipswich Water Fest. Events are being held until 14 October to promote the region’s waterways and active living.
Here’s how you can get involved:
Catch, Snap and Release
Put your fishing skills to the test and you could land a share of a $350 prize pool. It’s a catch and release competition, so all fish caught are returned to the waterways. Charlton’s Fishing has sponsored the comp with prizes for longest catch and most unusual species catch. A weekly catch will also be awarded. Entering is easy, simply upload a photo of your catch on a brag mat to Instagram with the hashtag #CatchSnapRelease18 and the catch location. Full info here.
Go on a River Heart Scavenger Hunt
This one’s perfect for families. Unlock your children’s imagination and spend some fun-filled time outdoors with a River Heart Scavenger Hunt. Some of the items will be easier than others, but the hunt can be completed on foot or by bike. Download and print the scavenger hunt list here.
Give canoeing a try
Explore the Brisbane River by canoe at Colleges Crossing. Sessions are guided by a professional instructor and all equipment will be provided. Each session lasts 45 minutes with 30 minutes paddling time. Sessions on 30 September are booked out with waiting lists only however a second come and try session with a cost of $10 is on 14 October. Help rid Spring Lake of pest fish
Pest fish cause significant damage to local waterways and are bad for native fish populations. Dust off your rods and take part in the Springfield Lakes Pest Fishing Classic on Saturday, 13 October. It’s an all-day event with spots available for families in the morning before a competitive event in the afternoon. Places are limited so be sure to register. Full info here.
