Interruptions possible for Telstra mobile customers as Ipswich steps into 5G future

Telstra has advised Ipswich customers may experience interruptions to mobile services as the telco giant flicks the switch on the region’s first Telstra 5G base stations today.

Telstra Regional General Manager May Boisen said the new 5G capacity, and the ongoing rollout, would not only benefit customers with 5G devices in the selected rollout, but also customers with 4G devices near new 5G coverage.

“We are undertaking maintenance in Redbank Plains to improve 4G mobile capacity in the area,” Ms Boisen said.

“Customers may notice very minor service interruptions, like slower download speeds, over the next two weeks while the upgrades takes place.

“Telstra has always been dedicated to connecting people in regional Australia and ensuring they are amongst the first to experience the latest mobile technology and it is really exciting that Ipswich will be among the first cities in Australia, indeed the world, to have access to 5G connectivity.

“We know there’s never a perfect time to schedule upgrade work and we apologise for the interruption but once we’re finished it’ll mean better mobile services for our customers.”
