Intersection upgrade to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians

Work is underway to improve safety at the intersection of Old Logan Road and Addison Road, Camira, with work on a $1.1 million project to upgrade the intersection for both motorists and pedestrians starting earlier in July.

The project will deliver a new signalised left-hand turn from Addison Road, replacing the existing free left-hand turn; traffic signals will be relocated, and new concrete kerb, pram ramps, and footpaths will be constructed.

Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said council was committed to improving safety on local roads.

“This intersection is a known black spot – these works will improve safety for motorists and pedestrians,” Cr Jonic said.

“Our city is growing rapidly and it’s important that local road infrastructure keeps pace with that growth to make sure our roads can cope with the extra demand while keeping both motorists and pedestrians safe.”

Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully thanked the community for their patience while work is completed.

“There will be some disruption to local road users in the short term, but the long-term benefits in keeping our community safe will be great,” Cr Tully sad.

“Council asks that motorists use alternative routes where possible and take care to drive to the conditions while these works are completed.”

Addison Road will be closed for about four weeks from early July to allow the works, which are expected to be finished in September, weather permitting.

Single lane closures of Old Logan Road and Addison Road will occur during the works period, with traffic speeds reduced and some footpath closures.

The upgrade of the Old Logan Road and Addison Road intersection is funded through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program.

Ipswich City Council is committed to responding to the city’s current and future transport needs through its iGo City of Ipswich Transport Plan.
