Ipswich hospitals, aged care and disability services closed to non-essential visitors

Hospitals, aged care and disability services in Greater Brisbane, including Ipswich, will have no non-essential visitors for the next 72 hours after a positive case of COVID-19 of a staff member was confirmed at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

To protect patients and prevent the spread of COVID-19, no visitors will be allowed at West Moreton Health hospitals.

This includes Ipswich, Boonah, Esk Gatton and Laidley hospitals as well as The Park – Centre for Mental Health.

The exceptions are:

– one carer of children under the age of 18

– one carer of people with a disability

– support person – which can extend to two in some cases – for maternity patients (midwifery enquiries to 3810 1242)

– support person for emergency department or outpatient appointments

– special consideration will be made for end-of-life support (up to two people).

West Moreton Health advises this can be discussed this with the patient’s treating team.

Carers and support persons will not be allowed to accompany the patient if:

– they have been asked to quarantine in the past 14 days

– they are unwell with symptoms of COVID-19.

To keep everyone safe, West Moreton Health are asking that you consider other ways of keeping in touch with your loved ones in hospital, such as phone calls.

A Public Health Alert has been issued for parts of Brisbane in relation to the confirmed case of COVID-19 from Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Any individuals who have been in the below locations during the relevant times are asked to immediately home quarantine (until March 25 – 14 days from March 11) and call 13HEALTH (13 43 25 84). Contact tracers are also currently contacting people based on details provided by the venues.

Thursday 11 March – 2pm to 3.15pm – Morning After Café, cnr Vulture & Cambridge St, West End

Thursday 11 March – 5.45pm to 7pm – Corporate Box Gym, East Brisbane, 368A Logan Road, Greenslopes

Thursday 11 March – 7pm to 7.45pm – Stones Corner Hotel, 346 Logan Road, Stones Corner

Further information is being obtained on the Corporate Box Gym and Stones Corner Hotel venues and the risk assessment may be updated.

Low Risk Venue

The below low risk venue is where it has been assessed there is a low risk of exposure to COVID-19. People who attended this venue at the relevant time are asked to monitor their health and immediately get tested if they get any COVID-19 symptoms. 

Thursday 11 March – 3.10am to 3.20am – McDonalds drive through, 235 Old Cleveland Road, Coorparoo

Those who are close contacts will be contacted directly by Queensland Health.
