Ipswich will be a motorsport lovers’ paradise as the country’s top drivers converge to do battle in the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 in Willowbank this month.
Before the drivers hit the track, fans will have the chance to meet their heroes with all 27 drivers appearing at the free Supercars Fanfare event in Nicholas Street Precinct in Ipswich Central on the eve of the race weekend on Thursday, 20 August.
Mayor Teresa Harding said Supercars Fanfare is a family-friendly event bringing the excitement of the race beyond Queensland Raceway.
“The Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 is one of Ipswich’s biggest sporting events,” Mayor Harding said.
“Supercars’ return to Ipswich last year for the first time since 2019 was a huge success with more than 22,958 attendees coming from near and far to see Mustangs and Camaros tear around the ‘Paperclip’ in a boost for our $460 million tourism industry, and the local economy more broadly.
“We’re getting ready for another round of Supercars fever as the big show returns this month as one of only two Supercars races held in South East Queensland.
“Before they take to the hallowed asphalt of Queensland Raceway on 21-23 August, the drivers will grace Tulmur Place in Nicholas Street Precinct for the Supercars Fanfare event between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on Thursday, August 20.
“Attended by more than 2,600 people last year, this free event gives fans the thrill of meeting their Supercars heroes.”
Mayor Harding said drivers will hold a signing session with free posters provided, while car displays including a Red Bull Ampol race car, kids’ activities and prize giveaways will make for a great evening of family fun.
“So come along to grab a snap with your favourite driver and get a poster signed for the pool room – and stay for a delicious dinner at one of Nicholas Street Precinct’s many fabulous restaurants,” Mayor Harding said.
“There will also be free parking in the Nicholas Street Precinct underground carpark, accessible via Bremer Street, for this event.”
