Ipswich kids to have a ball with free Active Kids program

From shooting hoops to scoring goals, Ipswich children can enjoy a packed program of free sport and recreation activities these winter school holidays through Ipswich City Council’s Active Kids program.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the Active Kids Winter School Holiday program from 27 June to 12 July offers local families a fun, affordable way to keep children active during the break.

“The Active Kids program is all about helping children stay active, try something new and connect with other local kids during the school holidays,” Mayor Harding said.

“With 69 activities across 15 suburbs, there is something for everyone – from athletics, bush walks and mountain bike riding, to circus skills, dance and accessible sports.”

Mayor Harding said this year’s winter school holidays program included several new activities alongside returning favourites.

“This year sees a range of new activities added, such as gymnastics, martial arts, ballet, contemporary and jazz dance, acrofit, accessible court sports, accessible gym and more,” Mayor Harding said.

“Sessions cater for toddlers through to teenagers, and with six accessible venues across the city, 31 activities are delivered in a fully accessible format to ensure as many families as possible can take part.”

Bookings for the free activities are now open and are available on a first‑come, first‑served basis via council’s Active Kids webpage.

“Once registered, children generally just need a water bottle, enclosed shoes, a hat and sunscreen, with most equipment provided,” Mayor Harding said.

“It can be challenging for families to keep kids entertained during the school holidays, so we encourage parents and carers to explore the program and make the most of everything on offer this winter.”
