The City of Ipswich has produced plenty of sporting superstars and now it looks as though another is in the making, with Westside Christian College’s Txai Anglin crowned the nation’s fastest under-15 female 400m runner.
Txai claimed the honour at the recent Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Sydney, clocking a time of 56.00 seconds.
It was a thrilling victory, with the 13-year-old running a near perfect race, patiently settling into a steady rhythm over the first 200m before going on to win comfortably by about 10m over the strong field.
“I felt good. God had planned out what was ahead for me. All I needed to do was be thankful,” she said.
The national title comes on the back of a fruitful 12 months for Txai who in that period worked hard to shave more than 2.5 seconds off her time.
The win also brought plenty of delight to her family, who were on hand to see it.
“They were over the moon. The Anglin clan were screaming louder than anyone else,” she said.
“My mum, dad and church community are my biggest supporters.
“My dream is to compete for Australia in the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and the Olympics in 2024.”
Westside Christian College sports coordinator Lynda Williams said she was confident Txai’s had a strong future in the sport.
Txai is the second national under-15 400m champion to emerge out of Westside Christian College in the past six years.
