New Years Thunder

Kick off the new year with an action-packed event at Willowbank Raceway. The first event of the year and first round of the 400 Thunder Pro Series at Willowbank is expected to draw a huge field of local and interstate racers hoping to gain championship points early in competition. Categories include top fuel, pro slammer, pro stock and pro stock bike. In addition to the pro categories there will be supercharged outlaws, pro radial, super sedan, super street and super gas racers. More info here.

Insectarium at Workshops Rail Museum

Explore the microscopic world of insects in a fantastic photographic exhibition of Queensland Museum specimens. Come face to face with colourful insects with hands on insect activities.

See images of the iconic Dodd insect collection – where art meets science; get up close to insects from the Queensland Museum collection; see live stick insects and sort their insect eggs from their frass (stick insect poo); create your own butterfly that flutters when you move; be an insect artist! Examine insects up close then draw and colour them; match the butterfly wings to create amazing butterfly pictures; see microscopic images of insects in 3D.

But, when a unique personal connection is established between an object and an individual, it has the power to stir poignant memories and promote a deeper understanding and knowledge of times gone by.

This is my heritage explores the profound connection that objects have to family, country and culture through the personal memories and experiences of 12 of Queensland’s Indigenous artists and educators..
