Latest stage of road works set to begin on Briggs Road

Works will begin next week to upgrade the road and pavement on Briggs Road at Raceview.

The $2.6 million road rehabilitation between Huxham Street and Sonia Court will start on Monday 16 March and is expected to take four months to complete.

It will include removing and replacing the existing road surface, creating new footpaths and constructing kerb and channel on both sides of the road.

An existing water main will also be relocated, while new stormwater infrastructure will be built to improve drainage.

Briggs Road is used by an average of 5,670 vehicles each day.

Ipswich City Council’s Acting General Manager of Infrastructure and Environment, Cathy Murray, said there would be some changes to traffic conditions as the works commence.

“We are delivering some important upgrades along a key corridor for the city,” Ms Murray said.

“Once completed, this project will improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

“However some slight delays and lane closures over the coming months are unfortunately unavoidable as this work is carried out.”

It’s the latest in a number of road upgrades being delivered by the 2019-20 budget, which announced $63.2 million in projected spending on the region’s road network this financial year.

Upgrades to the intersection at Briggs Road and Salisbury Road were completed in February, with traffic lights installed to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

  1. Was hoping the roadworks would be on South Station Road from the roundabout near Brothers to Swanbank Rd It is badly in need of an upgrade.

  2. The foot path needs to be extended to Edward St and up past the medical centre as this will give access to the bike park and to the medical centre on Edward St with safety access to both ! Have walked my Grandaughter to both from Flinders Veiw 1 block away and this has been proved to be quite dangerous to get to both.. Please put some serious consideration to this request.

    1. Hi Wendy I contacted the council about this problem months ago. The new million dollar bike park you have to risk your life on the busy Edwards Street and Briggs road highway to get there..The amount of trucks and school traffic on this street unbelievable. Thought this would be a safety concern for all kids and adults trying to not just get too bike park, but doctors, hockey and soccer fields aswell. With all footpaths going nowhere .Unfortunally the response email I received was not suprising. I was told that they had no money left in their budget .But then they went and put trees on the footpaths which a lot of people pulled out anyway . Perhaps money could have been better spent.
