Council’s Recycling and Refuse Centres at Riverview and Rosewood are set for another bumper year with customer numbers already exceeding the same time last year.
The Ipswich Waste Services July-September 2018 quarterly report showed 24,360 customers passed through the gates at Riverview Recycling and Refuse Centre, which was 834 more than the same period last year. The Rosewood Recycling and Refuse Centre had 2614 customers for the quarter, 96 more than the 2017 quarter.
Works, Parks and Recreation Acting Chief Operating Officer Bryce Hines said these numbers are sure to grow with the traditionally busy summer season.
“December is a huge month for both Riverview and Rosewood centres. The past two years we’ve seen an average 464 customers per day across both centres. And January is even bigger – the past two years have seen an average 480 customers per day through the gates,” he said.
As well as general household refuse, both Riverview and Rosewood centres have designated areas for recycling of green waste, white goods, tyres and car batteries and oil (domestic sources only), steel and scrap metal, paper and cardboard, aluminium and clean plastic bottles and free drop off zones for clean glass bottles and jars.
Riverview centre also has recycling areas for dirt and concrete and E-waste, and allows free disposal of eligible paint under the Paintback Scheme as well as televisions, computers and IT accessories under the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme.
Mr Hines said a visit to the Recycling and Refuse Centres is quicker and easier if customers sort their load before they arrive into the different categories.
“Remember to follow all directions given by council staff. It’s important for everyone’s safety,” he said.
Both Riverview and Rosewood Recycling and Refuse Centres are open 8am to 5pm, seven days a week. Both are closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday.
