Following a promise from the LNP this week to chip in $15 million for a top-grade AFL facility in Ipswich, Mayor Andrew Antoniolli has urged Labor to seal the deal with its own commitment.

“The proposed Brisbane Lions AFL administration base, training facility and stadium for Springfield Central needs bi-partisan support,” Cr Antoniolli said.

“I am strongly encouraging the Labor Party to match the election commitment made by the LNP of $15 million towards the 10,000 to 15,000 seat stadium.

“Springfield Central is also earmarked as the headquarters for the Lions AFLW team.

“This will be a significant boost for women’s sport nationally.

“Importantly, we need a commitment from all levels of government to bring the stadium to Ipswich and the western corridor.”
