Things are about to get a whole lot brighter at Fernbrooke Oval at Redbank Plains.
New LED lights will be installed to improve player and spectator safety at a cost of $600,000.
Deputy Mayor and Division 1 Councillor Jacob Madsen said work on the project will start soon.
“The new lights are needed to accommodate the increase in local participation in sport as the region grows,” Cr Madsen said.
“As the city grows so do our sports teams and we want to cater for that growth.
“The good thing about LED lights is they significantly reduce running and maintenance costs when compared to other lighting systems.”
Division 1 Councillor Sheila Ireland said the new lights will be welcomed by local sports teams and the community.
“The new lighting means these fields can also be utilised both during the day and at night,” Cr Ireland said.
“Once complete, the new lights will open up and lighten the park, add to its appeal and also improve safety.”
