Ipswich City Council has established five new standing committees for the four-year term and two new sub-committees.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the change in structure reflected a wider emphasis for the new council, with infrastructure and planning a key focus as the city experiences major population growth.
Mayor Harding and Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic will sit on all five committees, with the mayor opting not to be a chair and instead working closely with each committee chair in her role leading the Ordinary Council Meeting.
Mayor Harding said there would be four new committee chairs.
“Our new council has a wide breadth of knowledge and experience across many facets of community and business life and this is reflected through our new committees,” Mayor Harding said.
“This is a great opportunity for councillors, particularly those newly elected to council, to shape their various portfolios and work with the broader council to bring new ideas and initiatives forward.
“I look forward to working closely with each chair in the new roles as we continue to deliver what our city needs now and into the future.”
Council will also have two sub-committees: the Regulation Advisory Committee, reporting to the Finance and Governance Committee, and the Advocacy Advisory Committee, reporting to the Economic and Cultural Development Committee.
The first committee meetings will be held on Tuesday 11 June.
