What the bookies are saying

At Ipswich First we don’t condone gambling, but the bookies can be a good guide when looking at potential election results. If they’ve got it right, seats in Ipswich will be a Labor sweep.

The One Nation factor hasn’t been forgotten, and is most prevalent in the seat of Ipswich where former Senator Malcolm Roberts is challenging sitting member Jennifer Howard.

Ladbrokes has Ms Howard a $1.08 favourite to win the seat, but Sportsbet doesn’t quite see it as the same lay down misere, prepared to punt on a Labor victory at $1.20.

Conversely, Ladbrokes sees One Nation’s Malcolm Roberts a $4 shot, while Sportsbet is playing it safer at $2.50 for an upset.

In the new seat of Jordan both bookmakers have it smooth sailing for Labor’s Charis Mullen, who comes in at $1.05. One Nation is $10, the LNP $17 and The Greens $34.

While Jim Madden is still favourite to retain Ipswich West, the bookmakers see it as a contest – again due to the One Nation factor. Brad Trussell is $5 with the bookmakers while Mr Madden is $1.16 with Ladbrokes and $1.20 with Sportsbet.

Boasting a 25 per cent majority, Bundamba is the safest Labor seat in the state. With Ladbrokes you’d have to lay $1,000 for a $1 return on Jo-Ann Miller. Sportsbet is not taking bets on the seat.

Vote 1 for good news about Ipswich.
