Kids, and those young at heart, will be transformed at the city’s premier adrenaline-charged festival Planes, Trains and Autos, returning to The Workshops Rail Museum on Saturday 30 April 2022.
The festival will again celebrate all things aviation, rail and autos, and the low-cost event promises to be a fantastic day out for the whole family.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said this year’s event will be even bigger and more fun for kids of all ages with several Queensland-exclusive experiences for the local community and visitors.
“With family ticket packages available, as well as a very special visit from everyone’s beloved Transformers, Autobots Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, it really is an unmissable family day out,” Mayor Harding said.
“There will be heaps of hands-on activities spread around The Workshops Rail Museum, from The Nippers Railway adventure playground to interactive Sciencentre displays and paper plane wind tunnels, there is plenty to do and explore.
“Now in its second year, this fantastic festival pays tribute to our city’s rich history as the heartland of Queensland’s industrial development, while celebrating our present and future as a hub for defence, logistics and advanced manufacturing.”
Bumblebee and Optimus Prime will pay a special visit to Planes, Trains and Autos 2022.
More than 6,000 people attended the inaugural festival, and the 10,000 available tickets for the 2022 event are expected to sell as quickly as last year’s, which sold out in a matter of days.
However, Mayor Harding said those who don’t secure a ticket will still be able to see magnificent aircraft soar over Ipswich by simply looking up.
“There will be spectacular aerial displays by the Red Thunder Warbirds and Elite Helicopters, meaning the festival can be heard, seen and enjoyed by residents right across our city,” Mayor Harding said.

Economic and Industry Development Committee Chairperson Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic said the 2022 event has an exciting line-up of military displays, interactive family-friendly activities and a huge variety of awe-inspiring machinery.
“The Workshops Rail Museum will be chock-a-block with passionate exhibitors sharing their love of all things rail, aviation and autos, while timeless aircraft take to the skies overhead for exhilarating formation flying and incredible manoeuvres,” Cr Jonic said.

“Money raised from festival ticket sales will be distributed to Legacy Club of Ipswich and Queensland Museum Foundation,” Cr Jonic said.
The popular Queensland Auto Spectacular at Willowbank Raceway will take place on the day following, 1 May 2022. It will include a huge swap meet, car displays, the Australian Rocker Cover Racing Championships and quarter-mile test, tune drags and more.
