Park2Park Fun Run goes virtual

More people are able to take part in this year’s Ipswich Hospital Foundation Park2Park Fun Run than ever before, as the event goes virtual in response to COVID-19.

This year, participants can run or walk at their own pace, wherever they like, whenever they like over the four week event which kicks off on Sunday, 26 July.

Ipswich Hospital Foundation chief executive officer James Sturges said the Park2Park is a fun way to get active and support healthcare in the Ipswich region.

“With all that has been happening the past few months, there has never been a greater demand or need for virtual healthcare in our community, especially in regional areas,” he said.

“With your support, donations and fundraising efforts, we can further support our community’s health in a more digital, contact-free way.

“Better yet, 100 per cent of profits, fundraising and donations all support virtual healthcare and the hospital foundation.”

Mr Sturges said it’s also a great opportunity for school communities to get active, with registration discounts available for students.

“COVID-19 restrictions have had some serious implications on sport, athletics and the student experience and culture at schools,” Mr Sturges said.

“Park2Park virtual is a new and exciting way for school communities to still participate in an outdoor event, and get active running or walking in a safe, socially distanced way.”

Participants choose to run 2.5 kilometres, five kilometres, 10 kilometres or a half marathon.

Two new combination distances have also been introduced this year including the intermediate triple (2.5 kilometres, five kilometres and 10 kilometres) and the advanced triple (five kilometres, 10 kilometres and half marathon).

Registration is now open online for individuals, teams, students and families.

This year, there’s also an option to virtually run with a West Moreton Hospital. As an individual or as part of a team, people may choose to virtually run with Ipswich, Boonah, Esk, Gatton, Laidley, or The Park hospitals.

Registration is a flat-rate of $30 per person, no matter which distance you choose, with discounts available for school students and family packages.

Registration for primary and high school students is $20 per person, while a family of four can register for $90.

Registration includes:

  • Entry into any of the virtual events (including the intermediate and advanced triple distances)
  • Official Park2Park cap
  • Downloadable race bib
  • Finisher’s medal.
