The purple takeover of Brisbane Terrace and Evan Marginson Park in Goodna can only mean two things: spring has sprung and the Goodna Jacaranda Festival is just around the corner.
Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said the Goodna Jacaranda Festival was a much-loved event celebrating community, colour and culture.
“There is something magical about seeing the purple takeover of Evan Marginson Park with the community enjoying themselves under the spring blooms,” Deputy Mayor Jonic said.
“This year will be no different with a huge program of live entertainment, carnival rides, market stalls, food from around the world and fireworks.
“Council is proud to once again support the festival with Community Events funding of $7,500.
“Goodna’s spectacular jacarandas are well and truly in bloom, ready for this year’s festival on 23 and 24 October.
“The Goodna Jacaranda Festival is a crowd favourite, providing an opportunity for residents and visitors to appreciate the beautiful jacaranda blooms of Goodna, enjoy the lovely spring weather and connect with their community.
“These trees have stood witness to the highs and lows of Goodna for nearly a century, with some trees along Brisbane Terrace and Woogaroo Street being planted in 1932 by work gangs as a way to create employment during the Great Depression.
“In recent years, these trees have stood witness to Goodna’s growth after many of them survived the floods of 1955, 1974 and 2011.”
Goodna Jacaranda Festival president Mathew Taylor said he wanted festivalgoers to enjoy themselves and be proud of Goodna and Ipswich.
“For two days, Evan Marginson Park will become a meeting place for families, local businesses, community groups and performers from across Ipswich and this year we are expecting about 11,000 people to attend,” Mr Taylor said.
“The jacarandas give us an incredible backdrop, but it’s the people — our volunteers, performers, businesses, community groups and visitors — who give the festival its character.
“Ipswich City Council’s continued support helps us deliver an event of this scale safely and professionally while keeping the focus firmly on community and we’re grateful to have council alongside us as a major partner again in 2026.”
