Sneak peek video: Springfield Central Sport Fields

The new Springfield Central Sports Fields, currently under construction, will be the single biggest boost to sporting facilities in the city’s history

They will rank among the best municipal fields and courts in Queensland.

Lendlease is building the $38 million complex with Ipswich City Council contributing $4 million with the balance of $34 million funded by developer contributions.

Lendlease Communities Managing Director Matthew Wallace said the company was pleased to be delivering the much-needed new sports fields for the local Springfield community and the wider Ipswich city region.

“The Springfield Central sports complex will be the district’s largest sporting precinct and is designed to meet the needs of a thriving community catering for a diverse range of ages and sporting interests, creating countless opportunities to play and be active,” Mr Wallace said.

Interest from sporting clubs has been high following the closing of expressions of interest in August.

Work started late last year opposite Springfield Central State High School and St Peters Lutheran College.

It is anticipated the new sports fields will attract major sporting events such as the new Greater Springfield Marathon Festival next June.

Construction is due for completion mid 2019.
