Sport legends can now nominate for 2022 Ipswich Sports Awards

The Ipswich Sports Awards are back for 2022, recognising local sporting legends and rising stars both on and off the field.

Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said the Ipswich Sports Awards are a wonderful celebration of our local sporting community.

“These awards acknowledge and celebrate those who participate in sport across our city and the very important people who make that participation possible,” Cr Fechner said.

“Sport provides tremendous benefit to our community, contributing to a more active and healthier Ipswich and encouraging social connection and cohesion.

“Council is proud to host the 2022 Ipswich Sports Award which continues our support of sport across the city that includes more than 60 council sporting facilities that welcome more than 150 clubs and organisations.”

Nominations for the 2022 Ipswich Sports Awards are now open.

Tell us about that person you know who has the will to win and never give in and they could be in the running to win $2,000 in prize money and receive recognition for their sporting achievements.

There are eight categories available to recognise local participants, ranging from juniors to masters through to clubs, volunteers and officials representing a broad spectrum of the sporting industry and community.

Ipswich Sport Award categories for 2022 are:

  • Senior Sportsperson of the Year
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year
  • Masters Sportsperson of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Sporting Organisation of the Year
  • Coach of the Year
  • Official of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year

“I encourage community members to nominate an athlete dedicated to doing their best, a team that has had an exceptional year, a referee who blows the whistle every week so the match can be played, or a club legend for their tireless behind-the-scenes efforts to nurture and nourish local sport and athletes,” Cr Fechner said.

“Winners in each category will also receive $2,000 prize money.”

Nominations for the 2022 Ipswich Sports Awards close 21 August.

Winners will be announced at the 2022 Ipswich Sports Awards Ceremony on 4 November.
